Review: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

A perfect stepping stone for the DCEU and the Justice League. Sofistication and popcorn action in a perfect mix.

Batman-Vs-Superman-poster-24Jan2016

There is so much i wanna say about this movie, but i am going to be as spoiler-free as possible for my readers sake who hasn’t seen the movie. With that out of the way:

I would put Batman v Superman in terms of sheer epicness, anticipation and comicbookness on the same level as The Avengers and The Dark Knight. There are not many comicbookmovies that will match “BvS”in terms of sofistication, screenwriting and acting, the only one i can think of is Watchmen.

The writing in Batman v Superman really stepped up its game since Man of Steel (which i absolutely love) and Chris Terrio really shows of his talent as a screenwriter – the nerve is there, the tention between Clark and Bruce and he managed to produce some great stuff for Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor who in my book stole the show together with Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot.

The story of Man of Steel flows very well into Batman v Superman where the human population is split about how to procieve Superman after the destruction in Metropolis when Superman fought against General Zod – Is he a threat or a savior? Henry Cavill plays the part of a conflicted Superman perfectly and does it much better than in Man of Steel. He conveys so many emotions and we can truly see his struggle with the fact that the human race doesn’t trust him.

While Jesse Eisenberg might have been a controversial casting for Lex Luthor at the time when the movie was in development, that doesn’t compare to the enormous backlash from “fans” that Ben Affleck got when he was cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne. And let me tell you this: Ben Affleck is the best on-screen Batman. Ever. He embodies every single thing that makes Batman and Bruce Wayne so compelling, he got the Bruce Wayne persona perfectly, he fights like in the comicbooks/animation/Arkham-games and he his grumpy, angry, brutal and cynical just like Batman is supposed to be portrayed. All cred to Christian Bale but he pales in comparison.

I must also talk about Gal Gadot and her portrayal of Wonder Woman and i shit you not, the entire theater was applauding and sheering when she made her entrance, it was 100% fangasmic. She will define this role just like Christopher Reeve did with his portrayal of Superman. My hype for her own standalone movie slated for release next year just skyrocketed.

There are several easter-eggs and cameos in the movie that hints toward the Justice League without it being forced and i really liked that and it didn’t make the movie feel crowded like many feared it to be. The soundtrack is amazing but i must say that the sound in some instances was to loud but overall a fantastic soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and Mad Max-composer Junkie XL. I did see it in IMAX-3D it was packed with fans and other moviegoers.

So my closing thougts.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is everything i wanted it to be and it delivered on every level – Superb acting from the entire cast, great VFX and sound design plus it’s pure fanservice which i don’t mind.

I will give it 4,8 of 5!

Go and see it – NOW!

Movie Review: Deadpool (2016)

deadpool1-gallery-image

Before i review this i just want to tell you guys who don’t know this character that this is not the typical family friendly X-Men or Avengers movie. This is a hard R-rated movie with gore, blood, nudity, sex and swearing.

With that said.

I love this movie, i have never laughed so hard in the theater like i did with Deadpool. It is hysterical but it’s a love story at it’s core. Everyone in this movie are well casted, Ryan Reynolds are born to play this role and i may consider this the definitive version of Deadpool, TJ Miller is great as Weasel, Morena Baccarin kills it as Vanessa (Wade Wilson’s love interest) and Ed Skrein is a great villain in Ajax.
The fourth wall breaking jokes are all there and every joke lands perfectly and we get a lot of jabs and references to previous X-Men films and Ryan Reynolds movies (Green Lantern, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and the best Stan Lee cameo yet.

I can’t recommend this movie enough, Deadpool is one of the best comicbook movies that have come out for the last 10 years.

I’ll give it 5 chimichangas of 5!

8 Reasons Why Batman v Superman Is Going To Be a Success

We are now only less than 2 months away from the premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the marketing campaign has gone into full gear. I would like to take your time and try to convince some of you doubters on why Batman v Superman will be a success, both at the Box Office and with the critics.

Here are my 8 reasons why Batman v Superman will be a success:

12400625_1012604905466322_2159514493880647549_n
A classic black and grey Batsuit

– They actually have a comic book-accurate Batsuit that is black and grey – something that i have been wanting ever since Batman (1989).

85th_Academy_Awards_-_Patr_3_tx728_fsharpen
An Academy Award winning screenwriter

– An Academy Award winning screenwriter in Chris Terrio. All due respect to David S Goyer but i’m glad that Warner Bros brought in Chris to rewrite the script. He showed what he is capable of in Argo. One of my favorite movies for the last 15 years.

batmanbenaffleck-141186
Will Afflecks Batman be the most Comicbook-accurat yet?

– Batman actually feels (and acts at it seems) like the comicbook-counterpart. I didn’t feel the detective side of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the Nolan-trilogy and his Batman-voice was to over the top for me. They were still fantastic movies though.

The possibility of seeing the Bat-family on the big screen

– We may finally get the entire Bat-family from the comics with a dead Robin (maybe a Red Hood down the line?), Nightwing and possibly even Oracle/Batgirl.

ClayfaceTNBA
Can we see villains such as Clayface down the road?

– There are big possibilities that we are going to see more fantastical villains in these new set of DC-films compared to the more grounded and realistic portrayals of classic DC-villains in The Dark Knight Trilogy. We already have Killer Croc and Enchantress (Suicide Squad Villains but still).

NEepMlDY4rLEif_1_b
A fantastic cast! (BvS-cast to the left)

– A fantastic cast. You can’t deny the stellar cast of this movie: Ben Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams and the list goes on. This mixed with Snyders fantastic comicbook-style of filming and the writing talent of Chris Terrio.

Batman-v-Superman-Trailer-Affleck-Batsuit

– Ben Affleck is a massive Batman-fan and he knows his stuff. He is even rumored to direct his own stand alone-movie.

a1cc189596358cbce25a2e3ab4844f4b
Ben Affleck have matured since his early films in the 90’s

– Ben Affleck is not the same actor he was over 10 years ago, he has like many actors evolved as an actor.

This is just a few of the reasons why i believe Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will crush at the box office and be well received by the fans and critics.

Top 5: My Most Anticipated Comicbook-Movies Of 2016

2015 has been a fantastic year for comicbook-movies but it seems like 2016 will be even more epic in terms of the sheer amount of big budget movies based on comic book properties. So here is my top 5 list of my most anticipated comic book movies of 2016!

5. Deadpool

deadpool1-gallery-image

This is a dark horse for me because it can go either way (we saw how it turned out last time), but neither the less. We are finally getting a proper R-Rated Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds (Who by the way is born to play this role) playing the merc with the mouth. And with it possibly being part of the X-Men Universe makes it even more anticipated.

4. X-Men: Apocalypse

ew-cover-1373-xmen_612x380-1.jpg

The X-Men franchise have found it’s grove again after the missteps of X-Men 3: Last Stand and the atrocious X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Both X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past have been fantastic movies in their own rights. But the flaws with those movies is that the X-Men haven’t fought against cosmic and larger than life beings. Apocalypse will change that and we will see him for the first time on the big screen.

3. Captain America: Civil War

F2ekc6n.png

This has been on many people’s most anticipated comic book movies of 2016, but the reason why it’s not my top 1 is because there are two other movies that are more anticipated for me. Having said that, this is basically an Avengers movie (with The Hulk and Thor excluded in the rooster) and the core conflict will be between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark were superheroes must stand accountable of what happened in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Steve Rogers doesn’t agree with the government and it sparks a war within the Avengers. Also add the inclusion of Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) and we will get an action packed superhero-flick!

2. Suicide Squad

jared-leto-joker-suicide-squad-movie-leaked-wallpaper.jpg

This is a make it or break it movie for DC and Warner Bros, this is their first movie in the DCEU after the events of Batman v Superman and with a group of characters that are for the most part unknown for the general audience (with the exception of Batman and The Joker). But my anticipation level for it is sky-high because we are going to see our first big screen representations of Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Katana, Deadshot and many more and with the inclusion of The Joker played by the extremely talented Jared Leto gives this movie big expectations.

1. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

BvS-trailer-000.png

The title of this movie says it all, it is not only about the conflict between Superman and Batman, it is also a semi-prequel to the Justice League movie that will be released in 2017. This is a movie that all comic book fans have been looking forward to for decades. The trinity may have existed for over 75 years but they have never shared the big screen in the same movie. It’s a behemoth of a motion picture and it has a lot of thing going for it: Ben Affleck looks amazing as The Dark Knight, Gal Gadot as the Amazonian Warrior and Henry Cavill reprising his role as the last son of Krypton, Jason Momoa as Aquaman: The King of Atlantis , a fantastic screenwriter in Chris Terrio and a visual director in Zack Snyder.

This is not only my most anticipated comic book movie of 2016:

It is my most anticipated movie  of all time.

Review: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Spoiler-free)

“A long time a go in a galaxy far far away…”

starwars7

Right at that moment i felt that i was home again, i had tears of joy in my eyes already when the Lucasfilm-logo showed up and it sure was one of my all-time favorite theater-experiences. If not THE best movie-experience I’ve had in years.

Performances and actors

First of i wan’t to say bravo and congratulations to J.J Abrams who directed this movie and it really shows how much of a Star Wars-fan he is. From small obscure details to scenes that pays tribute to previous movies in the saga (particularly the original trilogy). We have Han Solo , Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker back in this movie with new faces such as Ray (Daisy Ridley), Finn, (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and these new characters are welcome additions to the Star Wars-franchise i really enjoyed and was bought into the chemistry between Rey and Finn. It felt genuine (not like the stale performances in the prequels), that goes to everyone in this movie. All of them brought their A-game and we will see more of John Boyega and Daisy Ridley in the future. Mark my words.

Special effects and production values:

The special-effects were specatular and they perfectly blended practical stuff with CGI and not like the prequels where most of the environments and many characters were CGI. But there is one short scene that felt a little bit out of place. And the soundtrack was fantastic, some tracks was re-used from the original trilogy but it didn’t matter – it hit the right emotional and nostalgic spots for me.

This is a hard piece to write because i don’t want to spoil anything for you who haven’t seen the movie yet, but there are some shocking moments that i’m still thinking about 3 days later (i saw it on friday in IMAX 3D, my first IMAX-experience and our only IMAX-screen here in Sweden).

To sum it up.

The prequels is just a vague memory.

The force was very strong in “The Force Awakens”. And i got ‘A New Hope’ for the Star Wars-saga.

I will give it a score of 9,7 of 10.
