Review: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

A perfect stepping stone for the DCEU and the Justice League. Sofistication and popcorn action in a perfect mix.

Batman-Vs-Superman-poster-24Jan2016

There is so much i wanna say about this movie, but i am going to be as spoiler-free as possible for my readers sake who hasn’t seen the movie. With that out of the way:

I would put Batman v Superman in terms of sheer epicness, anticipation and comicbookness on the same level as The Avengers and The Dark Knight. There are not many comicbookmovies that will match “BvS”in terms of sofistication, screenwriting and acting, the only one i can think of is Watchmen.

The writing in Batman v Superman really stepped up its game since Man of Steel (which i absolutely love) and Chris Terrio really shows of his talent as a screenwriter – the nerve is there, the tention between Clark and Bruce and he managed to produce some great stuff for Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor who in my book stole the show together with Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot.

The story of Man of Steel flows very well into Batman v Superman where the human population is split about how to procieve Superman after the destruction in Metropolis when Superman fought against General Zod – Is he a threat or a savior? Henry Cavill plays the part of a conflicted Superman perfectly and does it much better than in Man of Steel. He conveys so many emotions and we can truly see his struggle with the fact that the human race doesn’t trust him.

While Jesse Eisenberg might have been a controversial casting for Lex Luthor at the time when the movie was in development, that doesn’t compare to the enormous backlash from “fans” that Ben Affleck got when he was cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne. And let me tell you this: Ben Affleck is the best on-screen Batman. Ever. He embodies every single thing that makes Batman and Bruce Wayne so compelling, he got the Bruce Wayne persona perfectly, he fights like in the comicbooks/animation/Arkham-games and he his grumpy, angry, brutal and cynical just like Batman is supposed to be portrayed. All cred to Christian Bale but he pales in comparison.

I must also talk about Gal Gadot and her portrayal of Wonder Woman and i shit you not, the entire theater was applauding and sheering when she made her entrance, it was 100% fangasmic. She will define this role just like Christopher Reeve did with his portrayal of Superman. My hype for her own standalone movie slated for release next year just skyrocketed.

There are several easter-eggs and cameos in the movie that hints toward the Justice League without it being forced and i really liked that and it didn’t make the movie feel crowded like many feared it to be. The soundtrack is amazing but i must say that the sound in some instances was to loud but overall a fantastic soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and Mad Max-composer Junkie XL. I did see it in IMAX-3D it was packed with fans and other moviegoers.

So my closing thougts.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is everything i wanted it to be and it delivered on every level – Superb acting from the entire cast, great VFX and sound design plus it’s pure fanservice which i don’t mind.

I will give it 4,8 of 5!

Go and see it – NOW!

Editorial: No, The Batman v Superman Trailer didn’t show to much

Around a week ago, a new trailer for the uppcoming Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice released together with Jimmey Kimmel (seriously what is it with him and getting every big trailer?…  anyway).. The reactions of it, is split to say the least. Some loved it, others says it ruined the whole movie.

The trailer is just basically the synopsis in action. How people that follow this movie says that they spoil everything in the movie (which it clearly does not) when they have read the synopsis is a headscratcher! The only thing that the trailer spoiled is Doomsday. And is that really something to be spoiled at the moment, with all the reports that has been done for months?

There is still tons of question that hasn’t been answered.

1. Where is Aquaman? (Which is confirmed to have a cameo with Jason Momoa playing him)
2. Who is Jena Malone playing (is she even in this movie)?
3. Who is Scoot McNairy playing?
4. Why is Wonder Woman there (she is in the party for instance that is shown in the start of the trailer, she isn’t just magically appearing at the fight)
5. Where is Vic Stone? Will he become Cyborg in this?
6. What about the bandage on Lex hand?
7. When and how will he become bald?
8. Will we see the mechsuit for instance?
9. Why the *beep* is Superman behind him when he says “The Devil will do it”?
10. How will they fight Doomsday?
11. Will Doomsday kill Superman in this? And if so, will Superman come back in the same movie?
12. Is Flash going to have a cameo, and if so where is he?
13. WTF happend to Wayne Manner?
14. Is Aquaman causing the flood?

I could go on.

Avengers Trailer 2, Avengers Age of Ultron trailer 2 (and 3) and Winter Soldier trailer 2 spoiled a  ton of stuff as well. You see several big moneyshots in the Avenger trailer 2. You see the end fight in Avegers Age of Ultron trailer (as well as the big fight between hulk and iron man which is the best part of the movie), you see every big action scene AND Winter soldiers face in the Winter Solider trailer 2. And no one seems to complain about that… Not to mention the Star wars the force awakens poster which spoiled a certain famous plot device that every Star Wars fans is familiar with.

But then again, fans no matter what fan-base seems to have selective memory and only remember what they want to remember.

If you don’t believe me, check the links below

I just like the line that’s all.

If there is something i agree on however, then it is the fact that it is a bit clunky edited in the end (it could just have ended with the roar our the bodyshot of Doomsday and it would been perfectly fine), if you really think about this trailer was for the casuals. The housewife’s, the grandparents. Everyone that is not in to comicbooks like we sweaty nerds are. The one’s that is the majority of moviegoers and has questioned why are they fighting because they are both meant to be good guys and haven’t want to see this because of that sheer fact. The classic “Superman could just kill him in one sec so what’s the point” argument.

I think Armin from Comicbookcast on Youtube said it the best.  In a way, DC was the one that needed to show the cards so to say, because unlike the Captain America Civil War trailer (that obviously had a ton of moneyshots as well) this trailer is the one that will be analyzed to pieces.

In cause you’re a one that shouting
“Batman never uses a gun”

It was basically… If you give us you’re money you will get this and this and this… And if they had shown to little, the same people had said… They are not showing enough… they are scared about the movie like Fox was with fantastic four (which basically had the same trailers all over all the time with some of the footage not even in the movie) It was a dammed if you do dammed if you don’t. And if they hadn’t shown Lex and Doomsday, they would also been accused for false marketing by the same fans that claims that they show to much.

Review Time: Spawn (1997)

1305472950_1

When the Mercenary Al Simmons (Michael Jai White) is betrayed and murdered, he comes back to life, as a soldier of the devil. Later on, he discovers something that forces him to make a choice between heaven or hell.

So, what is the story like? It is a revenge story like The Crow, but containing some of the madness of Beetlejuice. Sometimes, it does have me hooked, but other times scenes felt either rushed or entirely pointless. However, I would like to point out that I loved the dark atmosphere that the movie managed to create.

The effects are somewhat like the movie on its whole. Some of them are fair for when the film was made, while others feel dated even for that time. The acting in this movie is acceptable, except for John Leguizamo. Leguizamo’s acting is too much over the top (reminiscient of Eddie Redmayne in Jupiter Ascending) to be taken seriously in a movie like this.

I would recommend this movie to someone who is looking for a film like The Crow but containing more colorful (literally speaking!) characters. I’m glad I watched this film, but it remains to be seen wether I will ever do so again.

I give Spawn a 5/10

Top 5 – Favorite Batsuits of all time

The Caped Crusader have had his fair share of different costumes. Some of them looks better than other and there are also some really wierd-looking ones. So put on your utility-belts and capes – here we go!

5. The New Batman Adventures-batsuit

New_Batman_Adventures

This may come as a surprise for some readers because the original suit from Batman: The Animated Series is considered as one of the best looking costumes of them all. But to me it’s more nostalgia (i was introduced to Batman with this series) and because i think the black bat-logo looks more appealing than the yellow oval. It’s simplistic in it’s design and more angular. Love it.

4. The Dark Knight Returns-batsuit (and armor)

batmansuits

I think this story don’t need any introduction for you comicbook-people out there because The Dark Knight Returns changed the comicbook-industry and made it how it is to this day. Frank Miller brought new life to Batman like no one else and made him older, angrier and bigger. This suit started the trend with grey suits and black bat-symbols without the yellow oval and is not really armored which made it more agile and movable.

It may be considered cheating to pick two suits at the same time, but the armored suit (also from The Dark Knight Returns) was also practical in the sense that he had to withstand blows and punches from Superman so it came equipped with reinforced plating’s and electrified gloves to name some of the bells and whistles.

The bat-suits for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is heavily influenced by these bat-suits so i can’t wait to see these on the big screen!

3. Terry McGinnis-batsuit from Batman Beyond!

3748a

Where do i even begin with this one?

It’s very simplistic in it’s design yet it is one of the most gadget-heavy bat-suits ever created. It rocks both rocket-boots, retractable wings, it covers up the entire face and it also connects to the new Bat-mobile. It was originally created as a Bat-suit for Bruce Wayne when he got older in the Bruce Timm animated universe. Then some events occurred that made Bruce Wayne retire as Batman and Terry McGinnis took up the mantle as Batman and Bruce Wayne stayed in the Bat-cave an guided Terry through his missions. All and all a great bat-suit.

2. Batman: Hush bat-suit

BatmanHush259

This is near perfection when it comes to bat-suits. It incorporates all the elements that i look for in a bat-suit: shorter ears, black batsymbol, gold/yellow utility-belt and the fact that he looks scary as hell in this interpretation. Jim Lee is to me the greatest Batman-artist that have worked with DC Comics. But there is one suit that even tops this one and it is….. *drum-rolls*

1. New 52

costume03-1332400692

I really love the Jim Lee-style Batman from Hush, i really do. But one thing have always bugged me and this applies to Superman as well: The underwear on the outside.

But with the reboot of the DC Universe, the designers and artists updated the look of the entire Justice League, some where minor tweaks and some of them where bigger changes. Such as the removal of the underwear on the outside. The New 52 version of the bat-suit took all the elements from Jim Lee that worked and created the best looking Batman costume ever.

It got the shorter ears, grey and black bat-suit, no underwear on the outside and they added more texture to the suit. Both Greg Capullo and Jim Lee have drawn really awesome versions of this design but i personally think that Jim’s version looks better.

So there you have it.

Flash and Aquaman cameos explained! (Spoilers)

Possible spoilers ahead!
Possible spoilers ahead!

According to Heroic Hollywood there will be scenes involving The Flash, we already knew that Aquaman is present in this film, but now we potentially know what we can expect:

In the movie, there is a scene where Batman breaks deep into Lexcorp/Cadmus and manages to hack into the Lexcorp computers. Batman brings up surveillance footage on the monitors which shows the following:

This certainly sounds intriguing. But then again.

As of right now – this is a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released the 25th of March 2016 which stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth!
